GOWN, about 1820

Back To Era Greek and Roman Design

Mauve ribbed silk
Bequest of Mrs. Herman F. Wyers

Made for Margaret Wilson MacLeod, this dress is the ideal silhouette of the 1820s. Although the color appears to be tan today, originally it was a more striking purple. Traces of the original color can still be seen in the folds of the skirt.
